Top 5 sources of recruitment for oil and gas companies
In preparation for Oil and Gas Human Capital conference I asked the industry which sources they used to recruit technical staff. The top five answers were as follows:
1. Recruitment firms
2. Universities/Training colleges
3. Other oil and gas companies
5. Training companies
This list offers some insights into the current HR challenges faced in the energy industry. The global oil and gas industry is facing a serious skills shortage and human capital deficit. National oil companies, international oil companies and juniors and independents are all suffering severe shortages of experienced and skilled personnel as they expand their operations and enter new markets.
The current workforce is on a merry-go-round between companies, which are competing with each other for a limited talent pool. The industry needs to come together and work more closely to address the skills problem.
Developing closer relationships with universities is also necessary if the oil and gas operators are going to bridge the skills gap and bring new technical talent into the market.
