Charles Lucas-Clements and Barny Brennan, Xcite Energy joined the Oil and Gas Outlook North Sea conference earlier this year to discuss their heavy oil operations in the North Sea and offer key advise and strategies on developing heavy oil in the region.

Their presentation highlighted heavy oil development is not as challenging as many would believe, and the North Sea has the correct features to become a region for significant heavy oil production.

Discussing their operations in the Bentley Fields they highlighted the following challenges:

- High viscosity

- Mobility ratios

- Friable reservoir

- Limited sweep

- High opex

- Discount to Brent
