Download: How did Nautical Petroleum create a balanced North Sea portfolio?
Nautical Petroleum are a major player in the North Sea market and have been so successful they have recently been acquired by Cairn Energy, see a BBC article here for more information on this acquisition.
What made Nautical Petroleum an attractive acquisition?
Simon Thomson said: “This acquisition is another step towards building a balanced portfolio of transformational exploration, appraisal and development assets, and complements our recent acquisition of Agora to help build a platform in North West Europe.” Click here for more information
While Cairn wanted to create a more balanced portfolio and reduce their exposure to operational risk, Nautical Petroleum had also proven themselves in the North Sea as a very successful operator.
How did they manage this?
Steve Jenkins participated in the Oil and Gas Outlook North Sea conference earlier this year and outlined the key strategies that resulted in Nautical’s success. They included:
- Maintaining high levels of activity whilst preserving cash
- Securing shareholder returns
- Reducing exposure to major assets
- Reigniting operations in the North sea
- Keeping exploration/appraisal activities high
