Trans-Caspian Gas Pipeline to compliment renewable energies policies of the EU #nocsconf
The issue of the Trans-Caspian Gas Pipeline between Turkmenstan and Azerjaban was discussed by a group of experts, including John Baldwin, Group Political Adviser, of BP, Roland Kobia, Ambassador – Head of Delegation to Azerbaijan, European Union, John Roberts, Energy Security Specialist, Platts Energy Group, and Mark Rowley, Partner, Baker Botts at the 2012 World National Oil Companies Congress.
The proposed submarine pipeline between Türkmenbaşy in Turkmenistan, and Baku in Azerbaijan would transport natural gas from Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan to the EU.
Roland Kobia stated that gas production is currently decreasing in the EU, there are only 3 main suppliers and are heavily dependent upon foreign imports. Gas will also compliment renewable energies policies of the EU.
He said “We believe that a number of suppliers live in difficult environments and regions. Getting a relationship with us will help their sovereignty and business”. This project has been disapproved by Russia and Iran, which are the current two main export routes for Turkmenstan’s gas, due to the political instabilities.
