CSG committee established as Queensland river “bubbles”
This week news broke that a river in Queensland was “bubbling” and this was caused by local coal seam gas operations. The coal seam gas companies are saying that it is a natural phenomenon and some say that the bubbling is caused by leaking methane, but not from coal seam gas operations.
It then seems that it is perfect timing for legislation to be passed to establish an independent committee that will look into the scientific effects of coal seam gas exploration and production.
The establishment of this committee will hopefully provide clear answers on the potential effects that coal seam gas mining has on the environment, if any and can provide a unity of opinions based on independent facts.
Coal Seam Methane World is being held at the end of July in Brisbane.
