Domestically manufactured #rig to start drilling in South #China Sea
The first domestically manufactured deepwater drilling rig has began operations in the South China Sea. The rig is located 320km to the southeast of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Wang Yilin, chairman of the rig operator China National Offshore Oil Corp said that the deployment of the rig marks a significant step for the country’s deepwater strategy.
“Our company will strive to protect the nation’s offshore oil interests,” he adds.
The rig will play a strategic role in protecting China’s interests and also guarantee the country’s energy security.
As the region is heating up as a spot for deepwater, the 2nd annual Deepwater World Asia 2012 that will be held from 15-18 October 2012 in Singapore will discuss key strategies and investing in this region and introduce the main drivers in each country who will be core partners for deepwater projects.
