A great case study! Adapting heathcare technology to rail
In today’s world of cloud based solutions and the use of BYOD {Bring your own device}, it’s clear that different industries can benefit from each other by adopting the technology solution, and adapting it to the criteria needed.
Taking a step back from rail and towards health poses a great case study. The NHS adopted Iseeu Global’s Telecare system through Care and Pro service desks. The desks supported loan workers, and creating Care Circles within communities, care staff, clinicians and the patient. The concept was to provide a group of people the means to share information across a device with web access, but more importantly to use that information in an intelligent way, to create individual care pathways, and look at trends and data to provide the best intervention possible. With the ability to customise forms, send to any device and collate information, and then have those forms sent to an intelligent workflow, is a very powerful solution for anyone who requires instant feedback.
Now back to rail. Balfour Beatty Rail, saw this solution and adapted the technology to suit a project they were running within Network Rail. Its been difficult in the past for rail workers to report potential Health & Safety issues, as they can be remote based for days on end. Iseeu adapted there platform, to allow any worker or contractor, to download a bespoke safety form, populate with text, or speech, and attach a photo or video of the potential H&S risk. When sent the workflow will allocate the worker a reference number, and also send the information to the correct department, either inside or outside the company to have resources allocated as quick as possible. Third parties like this system, as they can react much quicker, and with each ticket being raised having a geo-location tag, its cost saving as well.
The worker or contractor, can also resolve the issue himself, and then raise another ticket confirming with a photo the problem has been resolved. Balfour Beatty have instigated a rewards scheme for any worker who raises and then closes a potential H&S incident. Mike Roberts National BDM for Iseeu Global told me in an email last week that ‘we have had great feedback so far, and have interest from other rail companies. It was developed to help people live a better life, but this is actually going to help prevent loss of life within the rail industry.’

Trains must act as Healthcare on Wheels. These could also be carriers for spreading awareness about science and technology across the country..
