Big plans for #Port of Hastings
The Victorian government is planning a redevelopment of Port of Hastings to relieve bottlenecks and congestion at the state’s ports.
Herald Sun reported that Port of Hastings will become an alternative container port to the Port of Melbourne.
The government is currently in the process of creating a new independent Port of Hastings development authority.
Ports Minister Denis Napthine said “It’s one of the biggest projects in the state’s history. It is a project that is about the next 100 years of Victoria, and it’s absolutely vital to our state.”
One article said that supporting infrastructure is also high on the agenda, with the Minister revealing an ‘inland port’ may be created in Dandenong of Lyndhurst. A road or rail line running parallel to the Western Port Highway is also being discussed.
Australasian Ports and Harbours Congress 2012 brings together international and local port operators, users, government and service providers to discuss future growth opportunities and major projects.
