#KapschCarrierCom signs 15 million euro contract with #DeutscheBahn

The platinum sponsor of the 6th annual #MiddleEastRail conference in Dubai, Kapsch CarrierCom, recently posted the following press release regarding it’s selection by Deutsche Bahn for the upgrade of its GSM-R core network technology:

Deutsche Bahn (DB) chooses Kapsch CarrierCom for the modernization of its GSM-R "core" network technology. Kapsch CarrierCom will migrate the world’s largest GSM-R network to the new 3GPP release 4 technology. The order is currently worth approximately Euro 15 million and the contract was signed at the end of July. Kapsch CarrierCom will implement the technology migration together with Deutsche Bahn by mid-2014. Kapsch CarrierCom has a long-term successful partnership with Deutsche Bahn and already supports Deutsche Bahn’s GSM-R network, which is the world’s largest GSM-R network. By using the new technology platform, Deutsche Bahn will significantly save costs over the entire system life cycle. Furthermore, this project enables Deutsche Bahn to migrate the entire network step-by-step to IP technology as well as to introduce new applications in the near future.

"With more than five million daily railway passengers and more than one million tons of goods transported daily, Deutsche Bahn is one of the world’s largest railway companies. We are extremely pleased that Deutsche Bahn relies on Kapsch CarrierCom for the migration to the innovative 3GPP release 4 technology. Due to our long-term co-operation, we understand Deutsche Bahn’s operational and organizational requirements very well. Consequently, we can quickly and safely implement this important migration", explains Horst Kaufmann, Kapsch CarrierCom’s GSM-R Sales Director.
