#BlackBerry handsets first in the World to receive #MasterCard #PayPass Certification

According to #MarketWatch, (@MarketWatch) BlackBerry Bold 9900 and BlackBerry Curve 9360 handsets are the first SIM-based NFC phones that have been certified by MasterCard Worldwide as PayPass-approved devices.

The handsets met all the requirements for functionality, interoperability and set by MasterCard. This certification will allow any MasterCard PayPass issuing banks to activate MasterCard PayPass enabled accounts on the SIM cards of these BlackBerry devices. This move will allow consumers to take full advantage of the growing trend in NFC payments. #France-Telecom Orange(@orange) believes, that mobile based NFC applications could create a new revolution by further connecting the mobile digital and physical world of the consumers.

France Telecom – Orange looks forward to offering the new Blackberry handsets to drive mobile NFC services in the Europe. The telecom operator looks forward to working with Research In Motion (RIM) to develop such NFC initiatives further.

Andrew Bocking, Vice President, Handheld Software Product Management at RIM said, "NFC technology is making smartphones even smarter and the MasterCard certification is a significant step forward in helping transform the way we use mobile devices for payments. We are working proactively with our carrier partners, banks, retailers and other industry players and we are excited to push the boundaries of how NFC can enable new mobile experiences for BlackBerry smartphone users around the world."

MasterCard has lauded RIM’s efforts in releasing handsets that are compliant with industry standards to drive NFC adoption. This move paves the way for further developments in the mobile payments and NFC space.
