An update on mining in Yemen from the Ministry of Mines

Mining in Yemen

In the run-up to The MENA Mining Show, we’ve been speaking to mining ministries operating across the Middle East and North Africa to get their insight into the latest mining opportunities, government incentives and advice for operating in the region. We recently asked representatives from the Ministry of Mines, Yemen:

What is the Ministry doing to attract international mining companies to set up business in Yemen?

The Ministry has supported the mining sector by establishing a new mining law, which is very flexible for international investors, based on international best practices in the mining field. This new Mining law has the support of the IFC World Bank Group.

How many international projects are already underway in the region?

Currently there are around 11 international companies operating in Yemen, with most projects in the exploration stage.

Which metals/minerals hold the best opportunity in Yemen?

Gold, zinc and copper, as well as industrial minerals and dalmation stones.

Would you like to know more about the latest regulatory developments in Yemen?  Hisham Shraf Abdullah, Yemen’s Minister of Oil and Minerals will provide further information on Yemen’s new mining law at The MENA Mining Show on 21 October in Dubai.
