Cosmic Technology Lab set up in US Gold Mine

A disused century old gold mine in Homestead, South Dakota is a new lease of life as a state-of-the art technology lab to study the cosmos and astro physics.

Mining for gold stopped in 2001, but now prosperity has returned to the area under the guise of a lab built in one of the mine’s caverns one mile under the earth’s surface.   To construct the mine all pipes, materials and components to build the lab have been broken down to fit in a single tiny elevator.

The lab will be used to conduct cosmos and astro physics studies and the infamous and mysterious  ‘Dark Matter,  used to understand the formation of galaxies and our universes.  The extreme depth of the lab has it’s advantages as experiments can be conducted to can avoid cosmic radiation on the surface and to measure flashes of light and radioactive decay.
