Jobs boom in the city attributed to mining in New South Wales
When many sectors are suffering, a surprise positive employment boom is evident in New South Wales, Australia, where currently just shy of 50,000 in the region alone are now employed in the mining industry – doubling the number employed over the past four years. The knock-on effect of the employment hike in the industry has led to additional employment in the cities in services and manufacturing too – Sydney alone has 3800 businesses supporting the mining infrastructure.
However, the report is timely as new taxes and increasing regulation may threaten the growth in the industry when they are implemented on 1 July 2012 and the Australian government are under pressure to consider their tax policies .
