How will the #mining industry develop in the coming years?

We asked 3 Day MBA in Mining trainer Willem Smuts how he thinks the mining industry will develop in the next ten years. Here’s his response:

The looming threat of nationalisation in many countries – especially Africa – will curtail exploration and development activities in these jurisdictions. The exodus of foreign direct investment in South Africa is a case in point, as is the significant number of companies that left the Democratic Republic of Congo in the last few years – bad news and an unsure future makes the dollar nervous and it flies elsewhere. Having said that, Africa and South America will become even more critical to providing the resources that the developing world so desperately needs. Stable, mining-friendly jurisdictions will dictate where most of the exploration and development dollars will be spent
