10 reasons winning makes it easier to win again

winning I recently came across an interesting article – Ten Reasons Winners Keep Winning, Aside from Skill – which highlights the many ways in which winning brings advantages that make it easier to keep winning.

So how and why do winners keep winning? Here are the top 10 reasons:

  1. Good mood: Feeling good about winning can mean that you’re more likely to persevere even in the face of setbacks, plus winners’ exhilaration is contagious.
  2. Attractive situation: The author’s studies show that there is less absenteeism or tardiness at successful organisations, as well as an increased sense of solidarity among employees.
  3. Learning: Winners are more likely to accept negative feedback and to work on improving things, as compared with “losers” who are more likely to get defensive and not want to hear about their failings.
  4. Freedom to focus: Winners have fewer distractions, meaning they can concentrate on preparing to win again.
  5. Positive culture of mutual respect: If you win as a team, you’re more likely to respect and listen to other team members, meaning that you can maintain high aspirations and strive for more success together.
  6. Solid support system: Winning enlarges the circle of people around you, meaning more support and motivation.
  7. Better press: It’s not only the initial victory that separates winners from losers, but also the more favourable story that arises about both the past and future.
  8. Improved networking opportunities: Winners are more likely to be invited to parties, conferences, exhibitions or other networking opportunities, giving them a head-start.
  9. Self-determination: The well-known phrase “why tamper with success?” tells all – winners have more control over their own destiny than losers.
  10. Continuity: If you lose, you spend more time on new coaches, new strategies, formulating new approaches etc, whereas winners can concentrate on implementing long-term strategies.

What do you think? Do you agree with the reasons highlighted above? It’s important to point out that, no matter how numerous the benefits of winning, there can also be downsides, such as overconfidence and complacency.
