NHS manual converted into 3D smartphone training app
The manual for a mechanical hoist widely used throughout the NHS has been made into a 3D smartphone training app as part of a major training operation.
It is hoped that the move will improve the performance levels of staff, by providing more interactive and compelling mobile training games rather than traditional training manuals. Award-winning games developer Caspian Learning was commissioned to handle the project, which involved converting the contents of a Mechanical Hoist Operation Manual into an interactive 3D computer simulation. The simulation can be played anywhere in the world via the internet or downloaded as an app for smartphones. A free demo is available to download.
The conversion will not only save money, but will also result in wider distribution possibilities and – it is hoped – increased user engagement. This project highlights the increasing popularity of mobile learning in all fields and it will be interesting to see whether the NHS rolls out the project to other training manuals in the future.
What do you think? Would you prefer to learn via a traditional training manual or through a smartphone app?
