If it’s not about the money – what is it about?
No doubt you give a lot of thought to what keeps team members’ focused and driven to perform to their best – to strive to achieve the highest standards of performance? Is it about the money? It is if team members’ feel they are underpaid, relative to others in a similar role. Once you feel you earn enough, whatever enough maybe, then what sustains the drive and motivation to succeed?
As human being we are driven by higher order needs. These vary from person to person, but they are important to each one of us. If we feel we have the opportunity to develop mastery in our chosen field, have a degree of autonomy and are doing something purposeful, then money matters less.
