Energy expert warns of approaching electricity network collapse
Public hearings are underway to discuss the possible restructuring of the electricity distribution industry in South Africa.
At 47 years old, the local electricity network has an approximated three year remaining lifespan before serious consequences will affect electricity supply stability.
Deon Louw says, “there is a maintenance backlog on R35billion and that money needs to be injected urgently. Around R6.5 billion is needed every year, but South Africa is spending half of that.” – Catherine Rice, iafrica.com, Thu, 26 Jul 2012.
Not to mention the skill shortage, which in my opinion is a spiralling disaster waiting to implode.
