Technology for environmentally friendly vehicles to be funded and developed by Chinese Government

Recently in news, the Chinese government announced that it will allocate a maximum of 2 billion yuan (US$316 million) annually from this year to help develop and launch new environmentally friendly vehicles to slash fuel consumption and emissions. The government will also be deploying other plans to ensure sustainable fuel usage such as the release of eco-friendly cars in rental companies of 25 pilot cities and the use of hybrid engines in public transportation vehicles of major Chinese cities. The needed infrastructure for such vehicles will also be prepared. By 2015, the government "hopes to have 500,000 electric and hybrid units on the roads, going up to 5 million units by 2020, as stated in the abovementioned article.
