The top 5 findings we uncovered are:
· Smart gird investment on the rise
The majority of participants believe that MENA utilities will have no choice but to invest in and develop smart gird infrastructure in order to meet rising electricity demand.
· Smart Grids will revolutionise the utility business model
The majority of participants believe that the adoption of smart grid and smart meter technology will completely overhaul the traditional utility business model.
· MENA utilities to invest in renewable energy
Participants agreed that investing in renewable energy to diversify power generation is a priority for their business.
· Data management and data security will be a key challenge going forward
It was believed by most that data management and data security will become a top challenge for utilities as grid intelligence becomes commercialized
· Lack of ICT knowledge listed as main inhibitor of investment
The biggest challenges seen to face businesses in investing in and developing smart grid infrastructure was lack of knowledge in ICT.
