PLN’s President Director Nur Pamuji announces plans on starting power trade with ASEAN neighbours
Indonesian national power utility’s President Director Nur Pamuji announced early this week that his corporation PLN plans to start trading electricity with its ASEAN neighbours by 2014 at initial capacity of 50 – 100 megawatts. He added that the infrastructure to support this trade is under development at the moment.
According to the plans on this power trade, Pamuji elaborated that Indonesia plans to import power from Sarawak to meet electricity needs in West Kalimantan and to export electricity from domestic power plants to Malaysia and Singapore. This announcement follows Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s remarks last week on his intention to opening a coal-fired power plant in Batam to facilitate sale of electricity to Singapore.
Southeast Asia, as a region, is seeking regional cooperation and power grids to meet their respective domestic energy demands. Securing fuel and energy supply is a major concern of many senior decision makers at both the governmental and corporate level in this region.
The 15th annual Power & Electricity World Asia 2012 that will be held in Singapore from 16-20 April 2012 will be addressing this issue of energy security and cross-border electricity trade and transmission at the Energy Security Dialogue. This dialogue features key decision makers from Sembcorp, Interoil, Reliance and PLN Indonesia. Download the event brochure here for more details on this session.
