Australia emerging as a world leader in the development of #smartcities
Several factors have contributed to solidifying Australia’s place as a global leader in the development of Smart Cities. The Australian Federal Government’s plans for a National Broadband Network (NBN) means we are leading the charge to become a ‘digital economy’ by 2020, whilst also targeting ‘20 by 2020’; an initiative looking to have 20% of Australia’s energy produced by #renewable sources by 2020. Leading the charge in the development of these cities is the AusGrid led ‘Smart Grid, Smart City’ project. This $100 million project will include distributed storage and generation, home energy management, substation automation, electric vehicle charging and time-of-use pricing.
This project forms a strong basis in developing the future of smart grid deployment in Australia. By demonstrating the technology at commercial-scale we can prove that the implementation of smart grids is not only commercially viable, but also an integral part of developing an intelligent and interactive society.
