#Sino Tan Renewable Energy, #MCC 20-Hainan International and #Norks Vind Energi investors in what is to be the second biggest wind power project in East Africa

Preparations are at an advanced stage for the construction of the first wind power project in the southern Tanzania highlands. The power generation farm will come on line in July 2013 with the capacity to generate 100 megawatts.

Being a country three times as large as Italy with a population of about 37 million inhabitants, Tanzania’s installed electricity capacity is just more than 800 MW – with hydropower providing approximately 500 MW of that need.

The electricity from the wind farm project will be sold to #Tanesco to feed into the national grid and thereby reduce the recurrent power deficits in the grid by about 10%.
The price per unit power has not yet been agreed upon – it awaits dialogue between #Tanesco, #Sino Tan Renewable Energy, #MCC 20-Hainan International and #Norks Vind Energi and the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (Ewura).

With production agreements already being a sticky issue in Tanzania we’ll keep you posted as new details are announced.
