Smart cities in Africa?

A recent article in Business Day(SA) highlighted the potential for technologies role in ensuring efficient use of water, traffic, energy and security.

Although countries like Nigeria generate enough electricity to support it, they face serious distribution challenges. In fact the same could be said for more developed African countries!

IBM has committed to targeting countries such as Ghana, Tanzania and South Africa to implement smart technologies. We are looking forward to hearing their updates as the keynote sponsor at Smart Electricity World Africa next year, 1st March 2011.

I do however pose this question to you all our readers – Which African country do you think will be first to truly implement a Smart Grid Energy solution?
