Synthesizing Big Data and the Cloud
Big data and cloud computing has stole much of the spotlight in IT nowadays. The big question lies in what are the decision criteria in deciding whether to deploy big data on infrastructure on premise or in the cloud (or a combination of both).
Before zooming in on the decision criteria, it is important to understand the difference between the cloud and big data.
A cloud database is constructed to maximize the benefits of a global cloud platform. While a big data database, it should have the capability to handle real-time data that comes in with high velocity and have the capacity to analyze and search for data in the system.
In combining the key needed traits of a cloud database with the requirements for a big data database, traditional Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) may not be sufficient. Yet, what types of technology are available and run well in the cloud?
