What’s more than #Twitter and #Facebook?

imageWhen we hear the words “social media”, more often than not the first few words that jump at us are “Twitter” and “Facebook”. You must be thinking, “Are there are any other social media platforms lurking out there?”

Well, we found that there is in fact a list of other social media sites that are less popular, but still viable alternatives for businesses to build their customer base:

Micro-blogging alternatives to Twitter

1. Jaiku: A Finnish social networking, micro-blogging and live-streaming service, allegedly Twitter’s closest competitor.

2. Tumblr: Users can quickly and easily share texts, photos, quotes, videos and more.

3. MySay: Users call MySay and leave voice messages instead of text updates to describe what they are doing. Their contacts can then listen through the phone, e-mail or internet.

Social network alternatives to Facebook

1. Ning: Users are able to create and control their own social networks.

2. Orkut: A brainchild of Google whose interface has a simple Google-meets-Facebook layout.

3. OneSocialWeb.org: A decentralised social network that brings together all types of social media.

4. Bebo: The third most popular social networking site in the US after MySpace and Facebook.

Do you know of any alternatives to the ones listed above?
