How investment decisions are made in Latin America PE and how they fit into a global portfolio?
Sam DeRosa Farag, Managing Director, Portfolio Strategist, Morgan Creak Capital Management
Demographics are important when making investments. Young people tend to spend more. A typical person will increase their spending until they reach a certain age and then it starts to decrease.
In Latin America, debt has outperformed equities in the 1990s and after 2007. Only in 2000 to 2007 equities outperformed debt. Equities are not successful in all countries. You need a very particular environment to get equity returns. You have to be very careful when you look at PE investments around the globe. Your exits have to be crafted very well.
