Brazilian billionaires join the rush into Colombia

Brazilian billionaire André Esteves of BTG Pactual, has joined the investment rush into Colombia with a $51.9m purchase of Bolsa Y Renta, the country’s biggest stock broker.

Esteves, likes other companies looking for capital expansion, has looked to Colombia due to the rapidly expanding middle class and domestic consumption growth.

Colombia is South America’s second-most populous country and, like Brazil, has a diversified economy that includes oil, coal, agricultural commodities and manufacturing. Last year, Colombia’s economy became South America’s second largest after Brazil.

No doubt Esteves will not be the last big name branching into Colombia in 2012…
