The future of #fund-of-funds
According to Institutional Investor, fund-of-funds (FOFs) find the industry environment increasingly challenging. They are no longer able to provide institutional investors with one-size-fits-all solutions but need to consult them in-depth. The reason for this is that clients are getting more sophisticated and nowadays require highly customised solutions, quite unlike ten years ago when they were not fully aware of the intricacies of hedge funds investing. Tailoring investment products to suit clients’ needs is not the only difficulty, however. Confidence in hedge funds and FOFs has not fully picked up yet after the turbulence in the markets in the last few years and the ensuing underperformance. This has led to a survival of the fittest, with the number of FOFs shrinking by one fifth.
