“Agriculture Law” in DRC: Impediment to agricultural #foreigninvestment ? #agconf #ffconf
Agriculture investment in DRC is at the centre of a discussion relating to the impact of recent legislation. Feronia Inc- Africa, a large scale farming company operating in Africa, has this week released its comments in relation to the “Agriculture Law” which has been enacted in the DRC. The purpose of the legislation is to advance agricultural development in the DRC, however concerns have been raised that it may limit the potential for foreign ownership of farmland in the region.Certain agribusinesses in the DRC have raised concerns that this provision may impede existing and new foreign investment.
Feronia Inc, a large scale farming company operating in the region, does not think that the legislation will affect their operations directly, however they will continue to seek clarification on the implications of the new Agriculture Law from local counsel and government in the DRC.
