A view on the Indian market by Kunal Mehra

Emerging Markets: India - A compelling growth story Emerging Markets: India – A compelling growth story

• Why India, why now?
• What are the most attractive investment opportunities in India today?
• Why India should be a key allocation in every emerging market portfolio
• Key risks and challenges

Kunal Mehra provided his insights at an other emerging market; India.

He noticed many similarities between India and Brazil. Growth is stimulated by domestic demand. And even at the peak of the crisis (mid 2008) India still had a 5,8% GDP growth.

Demographics in India are characterized by a fast growing population with an average of age 25. The strong growth will result into the prediction that 130million jobs should be created in the next decade.

Kunal mentions the major threats for India; India does not have oil, inflation and the political stability.

Corruption is a problem in India. Every time money goes from Government to the public there is corruption. There is a lack at the supply side -¨Who can supply quality, on time and within the budget?¨ – is the big problem in India.
