The Mass Rapid Transit Corporation (MRT Corp) has recently built 4 permanent information centres in key areas in the Klang Valley to disseminate information about the Malaysia Rapid Transit, also known as MRT. The centres contain detailed information on the station locations and project updates, and have received an encouraging response from passengers since its launch on 29 November 2011. The Klang Valley is an area comprising of Malaysia’s capital, Kuala Lumpur and its surrounding suburbs in the state of Selangor, with an estimated population of over 8 million people.
About the project
According to the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) Malaysia, the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit Project is the largest infrastructure project in the country, and it is a crucial component to help increase the city’s economic growth. The first line of network running from Sungai Buloh (Northwest of Kuala Lumpur) to Kajang (southeast of the Federal capital) will serve a population of about 1.2 million people, with an expected daily ridership of 442,000 passengers.
