#Paypal taking #mobileshopping to higher level than #mobilepayments
During the eBay’s Developer Conference 2011 this week Paypal gave a presentation as to how the company thinks others should focus on mobile shopping more than just mobile payments themselves. Throughout the conference there was very little said about NFC, or near-field communication, and how it can advance mobile payment solutions. That showed there is less interest in the technology even though it has been quite the hot topic in the news lately. Paypal wanted to make it clear they are not ignoring that NFC support is out there and there is a need for it, but the company says mobile payments happen fast enough already and would rather focus on the mobile shopping experience instead, for now.
Paypal has already released a “peer-to-peer” payment solution for those on Android devices, so they are well aware of the need for mobile payment solutions. The senior director at Paypal Mobile said paypal acknowledges NFC as a “great technology”, but Paypal is not going to wait around for the payment option to grow. She went on to say, “We found that it’s important to have a solution that is broad and flexible, trying to push something new on to them was not going to work.”
Paypal has also given a sort of sneak peak at their virtual wallet solution they are working on. The idea of having a virtual wallet and making payments easier is nice, but some said the solution was not as mobile as they had hoped. To help create the mobile payment option, eBay, which owns Paypal, also went to some of the other companies they own. RedLaser is one that helped integrate access to the users Paypal account, making payments even easier for the consumers.
