Location Based Marketing– Where are you on this?

location based marketing Most people believe that location based marketing is nothing to pull your pants off for anymore. Or is it? *Cue imminent pants drop*

 

Many claim to know what location based marketing is about. Something like Four Square – which melds Social Media and Location Based Services to allow brands to encourage more customers to come on board using their location.

 

However, I believe that location based marketing has become a thing that brands THINK they know back to front, but don’t realise they’ve only seen a glimpse of its true potential. Tip of the iceberg some say. I say this because when I talk to big brands about what they know about the LBS market,  they talk about their cool new app with GPS functionality.

 

But the effectiveness of location based marketing shouldn’t be about the APP at all. It’s important to have it but that’s not where the thinking should end. LBS should be approached with just as much ferocity as social media is approached now.

 

5 years ago, Social Media was the same. Brands knew it was something to do with Facebook and didn’t think twice about it. This is the time where smart brands have triumphed and others have failed. Don’t make the same mistake as some did when Social Media was in the eve of growth.

 

You need to know about Location Based Marketing and you need to attack it with full-force. Marketing is a war and this new weapon only makes battle tougher.
