Fancy putting your face on a Qantas aircraft and be part of their new ad?
Just last week, Qantas launched the “You’re the Reason we Fly” campaign with the tagline “Spirit of Australians”.
The campaign calls for Australians to send in their photo and/or name which give them a chance for their name to be emblazoned on the sides of the Qantas A380 aircraft and the photo part of the customer mosaic as the ending frame of an upcoming commercial.
An app was developed to make it easy for people to participate in this campaign via photo uploading. Photo kiosks will be set up by Qantas at major shopping malls where people can get a professional photo taken for this campaign.
Besides, getting a shot at being “famous”, those who participated in this campaign gets a chance to win 500,000 Qantas frequent flyer points.
3 days after the campaign was launched, Qantas received 18,000 photos, 20,000 names and its app was downloaded 5000 times. The response is much bigger than Qantas has expected, according to Alan Joyce, CEO of Qantas.
Personally, I think their campaign is quite brilliant. Getting their customers to feel as though they own the national carrier by putting their name on the aircraft and photo in the commercial. Uploading a photo and submitting a name through the app is hassle free to people. Aren’t we all used to uploading our photos almost instantly through our facebook app?
The campaign reinforces Qantas’s commitment as Australia’s national carrier and meet Australian’s increasing standards. Through the open invitation to customers to own the aircraft, it invokes an open expression from their customer brand allegiance.
