Twitter flies ahead with pages and mobile revenue
Twitter has made two major announcements this week that have reaffirmed their competitiveness amongst other major social networks.
The first announcement showed the world that they are making great use of mobile, where others, particularly Facebook, are yet to fully capitalise.
CEO Dick Costello revealed that on many days during the last quarter, they received greater advertising revenue from their mobile platform that from the web.
Facebook’s recent acquisition of Instagram was seen as a way to help boost their mobile offering, amidst the rise of Pinterest. However, while the world’s leading social network is transitioning into mobile, Twitter has now shown that their business is already capitalising.
The second announcement from Twitter is the launch of sponsored hashtag pages, a move that will help them to monetise brand involvement in the network.
With Twitter’s advertising revenue growing 213% in 2011, and expected to add another 86% rise in 2012, is this social network about to follow Facebook by launching an IPO of their own?
