How being a BALLER can make your social media strategy soar
The Pepsi Max brand team have stepped up their social media strategy with a brilliant viral campaign that has leveraged the popularity and skills of NBA Rookie of the Year 2011-12 Kyrie Irving. For the viral video Irving goes through a dramatic rapid aging process and hits the streets with some everyday New Jersey street players under his pseudo persona Uncle Drew. Uncle Drew starts off slow but ends up teachin’ them youngsters a few things about how to make it rain.
The video finishes with a simple reference to the Uncle Drew hashtag. #uncledrew – and the twitts are eating it up. There are a few close-ups of Pepsi Max bottles in the video but the focus is on the story and that is what counts. Pepsi is doing social media in a simple but effective way – creating content that people want to share…
Despite the obvious there are still a lot of brand managers out there that could learn from this video. In the words of the late Kurt Cobain, “entertain us” and remember to keep it street players.
