All Malaysian schools to have internet access by 2013
The Malaysian government is going strong on IT literacy, as it believes that IT skills are important for students to remain competitive, while helping them to become independent and critical thinkers. With that being said, Deputy Education Minister Dr Mohd Puad Zakarshi said that the 1Bestarinet project is on track, and that all schools in Malaysia will be able to have an internet network and virtual learning platform by 2013. The 1Bestarinet project is part of the government’s education transformation plan - to boost IT literacy among students. In order to achieve this, telecommunication towers will be built in rural areas to facilitate network connections. (news)
