Exploding online growth and new challenges for last mile

The “last mile” is a concept that originated with the telecommunications industry. When phone lines were being installed all over the country, the main lines from city to city were not as much of a challenge to plan and construct as the lines that took the service the “last mile” to an individual’s home. In suburban and rural areas, the “last mile” may in fact be the last twenty miles. In addition to telecommunications, the last mile challenge can be seen in other spheres including public transportation and the distribution of goods. When it comes to the transportation of goods the final mile delivery has several challenges.
