New markets: LCCs in Japan (download)
Japan can boast the busiest airline route in the world (Tokyo to Sapporo). It also holds the title for number 3 (Tokyo to Fukuoka), number 6 (Tokyo to Okinawa) and number 9 (Tokyo to Osaka). So not surprising that this is a region of ever-growing interest for LCCs and their partners.
Patrick Murphy is a corporate advisor for Japan’s relatively new Peach Aviation. He was kind enough to share some insight around developing a business model appropriate to the Japanese market, at the World Low Cost Airlines Congress last year. Patrick’s talk included:
· Understanding the development of LCCs in Asia
· How is Japan opening up to LCCs? What is the size of the opportunity to be maximised?
· How can a full service carrier successfully set up an LCC? What are the lessons learned?
· Perspectives on future business models in Asia
