#Qantas to cut over 500 jobs
Qantas confirmed the extent of job cuts yesterday, according to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald.
The report says 535 engineering positions will go and it will close its base at Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport by August. It could also close its aircraft maintenance base at Avalon Airport near Geelong.
Now its heavy maintenance work will be consolidated at bases in Brisbane and at Avalon.
The report says that overall the cuts take the number of jobs Qantas has announced to be axed over the past four years to more than 5000.
