US Airlines angry with new DOT pricing regulations A new Department of Transportation ruling now requires airlines to include taxes and fees into the price they display on their websites. Previously, the advertised price would appear on the website, and then fees and taxes are added upon checkout – just like when you pay for pretty much anything. Now, however, fees and taxes are included in the prices on the website, which airlines argue will make their service appear more expensive.

Southwest Airlines and Allegiant Air have joined in the fight to get the ruling overturned as airlines and the government battle over who actually has the customers’ well-being in mind.

In a move that has exasperated some officials, Spirit Airlines has included a banner on their home page: "Warning New government regulations require us to HIDE taxes in your fares." Everyone has their own opinion on the matter, but if you feel like taking the side of the airlines, Spirit Airlines encourages you to contact your local representative. Heck, here’s the link.
