#Fuel prices remain top concern of #airline execs; More intense competition expected in 2012
Terrapinn recently sought exclusive aviation market insights from our key speakers for Aviation Outlook Asia 2011 – Piyasvasti Amranand, CEO, THAI Airways, Shinya Katanozaka, Executive Vice President, Marketing & Sales, All Nippon Airways, and Jeff Bernier, Managing Director, Asia Pacific Sales & Affairs, Delta Airlines. All three executives shared a positive outlook for 2012, while mentioning the need to gear up for even more intense competition.
THAI Airways CEO, Piyasvasti Amranand, shared his outlook of “intense competition with enormous growth in new capacity, together with an uncertain world economic outlook” in 2012. He also shared that aviation industry stakeholders can expect from THAI Airways continued industry leadership in service offerings, the launch of its new LCC, THAI Smile Air, and continuous delivery of new aircraft, especially the A380.
ANA Executive Vice President, Marketing and Sales, Shinya Katanozaka, said to “expect strong passenger and cargo demand backed by the high economic performance in Asia” and that ANA is “looking for the chance to expand Asian services in the near future” with the launch of LCCs Peach Aviation and AirAsia Japan, the introduction of the Boeing Dreamliner, and with more joint venture business, especially on European long-haul routes.
Delta Airlines Managing Director, Jeff Bernier, shared Delta Airlines’ positive outlook for the Asian aviation industry while mentioning the need for discipline. He said to expect the continued growth of the SkyTeam alliance in Asia and significant improvements in products and services, as well as distribution.
Not surprisingly, fuel price volatility remained the top concern that could dampen the aviation industry’s outlook. The threat of natural disasters, an economic downturn, and political instability were among other top challenges cited.
