Low cost #airlines in #India to get new bases

Low Cost Airport

It is true that low cost airlines are very much prominent in a developing country like India. The numbers of passengers are booming every day and the total number is expected to increase further. Low cost airlines are increasing but what about the airports? The number of airports must increase simultaneously to meet the rising demands.

The airline authorities has now started realizing this fact and are planning to come up with special low cost airports to meet the demands of rising LCCs. India’s largest airport operator Airport Authority of India (AAI) has come up with the idea of building 28 low cost airports over the next few years. AAI is of the opinion that the domestic passenger demand will reach 500 million annually by 2030. The authority has proposed to invest INR 150 billion in building airport facilities during 2012-17.

To cut costs for airport developments, AAI is planning to use the unused air strips for the construction. This will enable them to reduce the investments. With the number of passengers increasing and the demand expected to meet 500 million, it will be very interesting to see how airlines will strategise the developments of airports. Will they use different cost cutting strategies to develop low cost airports? And if yes then what would be the strategy?
